Artist’s Bio

Annette Gloomis is an American artist whose concentration on painting the sublime in nature has garnered great attention and praise in the United States and abroad.

She is known for her diversity of creative application and her contributions to community. Gloomis currently lives and works in Shepherdstown, West Virginia; in Safety Harbor, Florida; and in Cambutal, Los Santos, Panama; drawing inspiration from the variety these different environments offer.

After winning a private scholarship at age 12, Annette began to show her work in public art shows and competitions, launching her career as a professional artist. Gloomis trained at an early age in art conservation, and she continued on to work for one of the largest collectors of American Illustration in the United States, restoring and creating a database of over 1500 pieces of artwork including those of N.C Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Howard Pyle, and Dean Cornwell, to name a few.

In the decades following, Gloomis’ focus on community positioned her as a leader in establishing the Tampa Bay Area’s support for the Arts. She spearheaded numerous projects, including the Pinellas County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Art Auction and the first “Gallery Nights” at many local restaurants in the Tampa Bay Area. Gloomis also opened Gallery 714 in Clearwater, Florida which hosted a wide variety of musicians, actors and performance artists, as well as fine art shows.

Gloomis was the set designer for several professional dance and theatre companies, created numerous cd artworks, community publication covers, and public murals, all the while participating in many invitational shows, and executing commissioned works of art for private individuals.

A constant in her different artistic endeavors has been a devotion to the mastery of techniques from “Old Master” to the most contemporary, while maintaining her dedication to quality. 


Ms. Gloomis’ fine art painting is an ode to Mother Earth, with an awareness of the environmental and social issues we face today, including the loss of connection with the “outside” and the observation of daily phenomena. Her themes are those of beauty and quietness, beckoning the viewer to enter the realm of nature and meditate on our relationship with the earth. Balancing a great attention to detail while also embodying simplicity, her paintings have an aura of timelessness and mystery that leaves the viewer wanting more.
